About the role
You'll lead the development of our machine learning infrastructure, designing systems that extract meaning from vast repositories of political documents, legislative records, and public statements. Collaborating with data scientists and editorial teams, you'll build models that identify policy trends across states, detect significant legislative changes, and surface insights for our journalists. Your work will include implementing document understanding pipelines, creating recommendation algorithms that personalize political content, and developing tools for comparative analysis of legislation. This position requires establishing MLOps practices that ensure model reliability while continuously improving our AI capabilities.
About your background and skills
Extensive experience building production machine learning systems with demonstrated business impact. Expertise in NLP technologies, particularly for document understanding and semantic search. Strong software engineering foundation with skills in scalable data processing and model deployment. Background designing ML architectures that evolve with changing requirements and data. Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring junior engineers. Understanding of responsible AI principles, particularly for applications in media and civic information. Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Passion for applying machine learning to strengthen democratic engagement through better information access.
Compensation and benefits
$200,000-$230,000
