About the role

As Lead Backend Engineer, you'll architect and develop the core systems that power our data collection, validation, and delivery platform. You'll design scalable APIs and data pipelines handling millions of business records across diverse international markets. Working closely with product and data science teams, you'll implement sophisticated validation algorithms and quality control mechanisms. You'll lead the evolution of our microservice architecture, optimize database performance, and ensure robust security practices. This role involves technical leadership of a growing engineering team while establishing standards for code quality, system resilience, and technical documentation.

About your background and skills

Strong experience designing and implementing production-grade backend systems, particularly those handling complex data workflows. Expertise in Python and modern web frameworks, with deep knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases. Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and containerization technologies. Background in data engineering, ETL processes, and API development essential. Familiarity with internationalization challenges and geospatial data beneficial. Proven technical leadership experience with ability to mentor junior engineers. Must excel in cross-functional collaboration and demonstrate strong communication skills when explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Passion for solving unique challenges in emerging markets strongly desired.
